AFTA Celebrates Girls in Aviation Day

Happy Girls in Aviation Day to all our female students past, present and future.

Girls in Aviation Day was established to encourage girls aged between 8-17 to participate in aviation. Just over 5% of airline pilots worldwide are female, according to the International Society of Women Airline Pilots.

At AFTA we are dedicated to training each student to reach their full potential and are committed to playing our part in encouraging more girls to consider a career as a commercial pilot.

Due to Covid-19 and current restrictions we were inspired to launch our AFTA Podcast, we aim to use this tool as a forum to reach out to future students.

Our soon to be released first episode is dedicated to this very topic and is entitled ‘More Female Pilots Needed: Why you should consider a career as a commercial pilot!’

AFTA graduate Senior First Officer Bernice Moran hosted an all-female panel of AFTA graduates and current students, to hear their views on why we need more girls in the flight deck. The panel, openly and honestly shared their own personal journeys into aviation, discussed flight training and gave us an insight into what is involved in the role of a commercial pilot .

The AFTA podcast is about sharing graduates and student’s experiences to inform, inspire and educate any girl who is considering training to be a pilot or has an interest in aviation.

Listen to the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Listen Notes.

We will also be hosting a webinar on Tuesday 13th October tickets at 7pm. Complimentary ticket(s) are available here.

We encourage any girl who is interested in learning more to start with booking a voucher flight (link to book). We also hold online or in person tours of AFTA, to book just email info@afta.ie or call us 021 4888737 (Monday – Friday between 9am – 6pm)
