- Be applying to complete their professional pilot training with AFTA

- Successfully complete the AFTA 3-step assessment process

How Does the Pilot Training Funding Work?
The scheme is structured so that students can demonstrate their suitability, progress and commitment to professional pilot training before the main loan is drawn down.
Stage 1: Initial €22,000 Contribution
Students begin their training with AFTA using an initial €22,000 contribution from their own funds.
During this phase, students will typically complete:
- Approximately 6–10 months of ATPL theoretical training and examinations
- 20 hours of PPL flight training
Stage 2: Loan Drawdown
Following successful completion of the initial training stage, the approved Credit Union loan can then be drawn down.
This allows the student to progress into the remainder of their professional commercial pilot training with AFTA.
How Much Can I Borrow?
Finance options are available for eligible applicants for amounts of up to €110,000, depending on the level of funding required.
An indicative interest rate of 6.5% applies, subject to Credit Union assessment, approval, terms and conditions.
The maximum €110,000 finance option can also include funding towards:
- Accommodation during training
- Living costs during training
- A repayment holiday while training is underway
All lending decisions are made by the participating Credit Union and are subject to its individual lending criteria, assessment, approval, terms and conditions.
