Renewals, Revalidations and Conversions


AFTA will help you renew, revalidate or convert a licence or rating.

Conversions from ICAO to EASA

Applicants who hold an ICAO licence and/or ratings may now convert these to EASA at the Academy as follows:
Requirements:
Must hold an EASA class 1 medical for CPL and EASA class 2 for PPL.

 

PPL Conversion

To convert an ICAO PPL to and EASA PPL requires the following:

  • Theoretical knowledge (sit EASA PPL theory in two subjects, air law and human performance).
  • Flight Training: Training to requirement followed by a skills test

ATPL Theory

To hold an EASA CPL or ATPL requires you to sit the EASA ATPL theory exams. This will take 6 months as a full time student or 6-18 months as a distance learner student.

Commercial Pilots Licence with Multi Engine Rating

Conversion of the CPL from ICAO to EASA may be achieved as follows:

  • 8 hours ground school training
  • 5 hours flight training on an FNPT 11
  • 3 hours flight training on a PA 34/DA 42 multi engine aircraft
  • Flight test

*If you do not hold an EASA MEP rating and you have less than 100 hrs flight time on a multi engine piston aircraft you are required to do a full modular multi engine piston class rating.

Multi Engine Instrument Rating

Conversion of the MEIR from ICAO to EASA may be achieved as follows:

  • 10 hours ground school
  • 10 hours flight training on an FNPT 11
  • 5 hours flight training on a PA 34/ DA 42 multi engine aircraft
  • Flight test

*If you do not hold an EASA MEP rating and you have less than 100 hrs flight time on a multi engine piston aircraft you are required to do a full modular multi engine piston class rating.
