A visit to the Academy is an absolute must. See the training facilities, buildings, fleet and talk to the instructors.
A Class 1 medical is a must if you want to become a professional pilot and fly for a career. This medical can only be taken at the Aeromedical Centre in the Mater Hospital, Dublin (tel: +353 1 8858615). It is best to complete this medical before any training begins.
A Class 2 medical is normally sufficient if you only intend to do a Private Pilots Licence and have no intention of becoming a professional pilot. This medical can be completed by a specially appointed Aeromedical Examiner (AME) and details of an AME in your area can be had from the Mater Hospital. Remember you must have a medical to apply for a Students Pilots Licence (SPL).
To be eligible for this course the candidate must first pass an assessment to ensure that he/she is capable of completing in such a short period of time.
Then he/she must be able to commit to training 5 days per week, and adhere to a strict training regime.
The course can be completed in seven modules over a period of time which is more suited to the trainee.
People who have other commitments and cannot train 5 days every week find this method ideal.
