AFTA has been in operation since 1993 training aviation professionals to the highest standards.

Atlantic Flight Training Academy conducts all flight training operations from Cork International Airport (IATA: ORK, ICAO: EICK). Cork Airport is the international gateway to the south of Ireland and Ireland’s second busiest airport after our Capital Dublin. Cork Airport has an elevation of 153 m (502 ft) above sea level, located 3.5NM south of Cork City and a Hub for Aer Lingus, Aer Lingus Regional and Ryanair. Cork’s 21st century airport terminal was opened in 2006. Designed by HOK and Jacobs Engineering Group the new terminal contains several shops, bars & restaurants, a bank and executive lounge. A new state of the art control tower also opened in 2009 upgrading Cork’s Air Traffic Management.

Cork International Airport Hotel and The Radisson Blu Hotel serve Cork Airport providing a variety of restaurants, bars and activities. The airport is served by taxi and regular bus services. Car hire is available in the terminal with nine car rental firms located at the airport. Short-term and long-term car parking is available at the airport with over 4,600 spaces available. Free Parking is available to all AFTA students at our Academy.

Why Train at Cork Airport?

Cork Airport, licensed by the Irish Aviation Authority, has 4 runways, full runway lighting, every conceivable radio navigation and instrument approach aid and a full range of Air Traffic Control Services. Instrument departures and arrivals are conducted under surveillance by local radar.

The airport and its environment are perfect for flight training operations as we have the benefit of training in both Controlled and Uncontrolled airspace. Controlled airspace provides the student with an excellent grounding in flight operations procedures allowing the student to fly under Air Traffic Control with the various types of Airline, Cargo, General Aviation and Helicopter traffic that you will encounter in Cork. Uncontrolled airspace (AFTA’s flight training area) surrounds the airports control zone and allows us to practice flight training procedures such as Climbing/Descending at our own discretion.

AFTA’s fleet at Cork Airport are situated on our own Apron within metres of the main Runway (see image) which means that from engine start our aircraft can be airborne within minutes and not wasting time having to taxi long distances.

Both our Flight Operations Centre and our Flight Academy are located adjacent to the airports runways. Both buildings have free Wi-Fi available to students and are fully equipped with state of the art multimedia study aids to provide the student with all the necessary tools needed to successfully complete their training.
